If you were to ask us, “Should I go skydiving?” We would all say, “Umm, YES!” We would also suggest that you go skydiving as soon as you can, mainly because it feels spectacular – but also because the collective benefits of jumping out of a plane can have a positive effect on your life. Instead of should I go skydiving, perhaps the better question is when can I go skydiving? Not convinced?
Take our quick-and-easy five question Should I Go Skydiving Quiz to help you make the right decision for you!
The United States Parachute Association (USPA) requires that individuals be at least 18 years old to jump at a USPA-member dropzone. Skydiving is an intense, thrilling experience that is currently reserved for legally-recognized adults.
If you are under 18, you just need to wait til your big day – maybe even jump on your 18th birthday and celebrate becoming an adult in fine style! There is also no maximum age limit, so even if you are 103 years old (the current oldest tandem skydiver on record) you can still jump if your doctor says it’s OK!
Skydiving is an extreme sport, and the people who do it are highly-experienced and highly-credentialed professionals who understand that skydiving over and over again requires proper admin to keep everything ship-shape. This includes ensuring that everyone show their valid, government-issued photo ID (passport, driver’s license or military ID) as part of the check-in process. No ID, no jump; no exceptions. Not even permission from a parent or guardian will suffice. Double check your pockets before you leave home!
If the answer to this is yes, then please speak to your doctor before joining us. Jumping out of planes has never been more accessible thanks to advances in skydiving technique and technology. We know what accommodations we can safely make to help people jump, but we are not doctors and cannot say whether skydiving is a wise decision for you.
At Oklahoma Skydiving Center, you must be under 250 lbs and be height/weight proportionate to skydive. This limit isn’t intended to be discriminatory; it’s for safety reasons. Skydiving gear manufacturers are strict about weight limits for performance and for comfort. A nominal fee is applied to the cost of tandem skydives for individuals over 200 lbs. If you have questions about this policy, feel free to get in touch! Safety first, always.
Is this a rhetorical question? Yes! And it’s an important one, because skydiving is for many people the single most memorable experience of their whole life. Even seasoned professionals who can tell you tales of umpteen spectacular skydives will likely still include their first jump amongst the most awesome of all. (Pro tip: get the video. The number one regret heard across our sport is not getting the video! Catch yourself doing the extraordinary! YOLO!)
How’d you do, young grasshopper? If you scored 100%, skydiving might be in your future!
While you consult your calendar for the best day to jump in the big beautiful OKC skies, consider these benefits of skydiving!
When you are actually doing it, skydiving is not scary at all – but if you have never jumped before the idea can be a bit anxiety-inducing. Landing back on the ground knowing you have done it is an immense feeling.
Achieving what most people only dream about – human flight – gives you permission to dream even bigger! If you can jump out of a perfectly good airplane, what else did you think was out of reach that might be within your grasp!?
Defying gravity, freefalling at 120 mph, floating under a parachute, and then touching down on terra firma is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced – and the marvelous mix of adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin you’re treated to in the process feels fantastic. Best yet, it doesn’t end when you drive away!
Ready to book your jump? We can’t wait to help you make memories that will last a lifetime!
